Designed by Jasper Morrison in 1998, the Glo-Ball Floor light from Italian brand Flos embodies a minimalist aesthetic with an emphasis on atmospheric light. The sleek, sphere-shaped diffuser, reminiscent of a full moon, is made of hand-blown opal glass with an acid-etched surface that provides soft and evenly diffused light. The lamp base and foot are made of heavy gauge steel in a grey or black lacquered finish, and the design is completed by a diffuser holder made of die-cast aluminium. An electronic dimmer is located on the supply cord, allowing the light intensity to be continuously adjusted according to the mood or needs of the space.

Inspired by moonlight

Jasper Morrison designed Glo-Ball with the aim of creating a light that would evoke the calm and softness of a full moon. The distinctive hand-blown glass diffuser diffuses the light perfectly, creating a pleasant, soft glow - similar to that cast by the moon on a night landscape. It is this simple yet thoughtful design that has made Glo-Ball an iconic element of modern lighting.

Technical details hidden in simplicity

Although the lamp appears at first glance to be purely minimalist, it hides a number of technical sophistications. The die-cast aluminium matrix with allodine finish, the durable steel base and the integrated electronic dimmer in the cable ensure not only stability and durability, but also comfortable user control. This combination of precision craftsmanship and modern technology underlines the sophistication of the overall design.
